Compile and install the GPL drivers:
make
make install
Make sure to
/sbin/depmod -a
Add /etc/modprobe.d/rt2500
alias ra0 rt2500
Then in /etc/network/interfaces
# rt2500
iface ra0 inet dhcp
name Rt2500 Wireless card
wireless_channel 11
wireless_mode managed
wireless-essid default
That should do it.
sudo /sbin/ifup ra0
Check that you have it in System->Administration->Networking
